“I want to be the best!” that’s the answer you get when u ask the young
MC from Coney Island what keeps him going in an industry filled of ups
and downs.
“Music has always been apart of me. Coming up I remember my Mom cleaning the house to all different types of music, Michael Jackson, Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, Kenny G, Chaka Kahn, Just to name a few. When my mom would go to work my older brother would watch me, and he would be banging all types of rap music, Leaders of the New School, Wu-Tang, A Tribe Called Quest, Video music Box, everything was just rap. That is mainly how my love for music started. Nobody in my household did anything without music. It’s funny to me now that I look back, because coming up I was always into basketball. Even then, after playing basketball all day me and my friends would just argue about who were the best rappers, who had the hottest freestyles on DJ Clue Or the newest Kay Slay mix-tapes, Or we would just sit and recite all these raps we heard and learned to love. That’s when I started to get that itch to make my own raps, I never really took it serious, I would just write them during class when I was bored memorize them and just keep them for fun.”
“After seeing some success on a couple of local mix-tapes, we chose to take that momentum and use it to our advantage. That phone call from spring 08’ single handedly changed our lives. I started taking music more serious and looked at it as a way to keep me busy and stay off the streets. I then worked on my own mix-tape FLY MUZIK, released it under our own label imprint Above Tha Law Records featured with our own artists.“ Once FLY LY seen the success of his first mix-tape he gained a certain belief within himself that he could be very successful in the music game. “It feels good to have people come to you and say they enjoy your art.” I being the competitor that I am that am not enough. Now I want my name to be mentioned with the greats like Jay-Z, Biggie, 2pac, Kanye, Nas. I will not be satisfied until that happens. “I know how hard those guys work, so I’ll continue to work and use those guys success as motivation for myself.”
With an uncanny drive to be the best, FLY LY is looking forward to flooding the airwaves with a unique sound. I put my heart into my music along with my life experiences, whether it is good or bad. “I want my fans and listeners to identify and grow with me, and have fun doing it, whether it’s from a melodic catchy hook, or it’s an unbelievable verse, its important to me that I deliver realness and quality to these people of all ages.” With his legacy growing steadily, keep your ears and eyes open for FLY LY as he continues to put Coney Island on the map and reach his goal to be the best.
